Bajaj Auto has recently made some upgrades to the Pulsar NS200 and Pulsar NS160. The Pulsar NS200 is derived from the KTM Duke 200. However, the two motorcycles are quite different in terms of characteristics. One of the main competitors of the Pulsar NS200 is the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V which has been selling well in the Indian market. Here’s how the 2023 Pulsar NS200 compares to the Apache RTR 200 4V.

In terms of appearance, Bajaj did not update the design of the Pulsar NS200. It still has a very aggressive naked Street Fighter look. The only LED lighting that the Pulsar NS200 gets is the tail lights. Although the current design is old, it is outdated. The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, on the other hand, has been upgraded and now boasts striking LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. It also has a stark street fighter design, but not as aggressive as the Pulsar NS200.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is powered by a 199.5 cc liquid cooled engine with DTS-i technology. It produces 24.16 bhp at 9,750 rpm and a peak torque output of 18.74 Nm at 8,000 rpm. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, on the other hand, uses a 197.75 cc oil-cooled engine producing 20.53 bhp at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque output of 17.25 Nm at 7,250 rpm. These numbers are for Sport mode.

In City and Rain modes, power output drops to 17.08 bhp at 7,800 rpm and torque output drops to 16.51 Nm at 5,750 rpm. The Apache RTR 200 4V uses a 6-speed gearbox.

Bajaj now uses 33mm forks on the front of the Pulsar NS200. The rear monoshock and perimeter frame are unchanged. Braking duties are handled by 300 mm discs at the front and 230 mm discs at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is also available.

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V uses a telescopic fork up front, but it does have a preload adjuster. At the rear, there is the monoshock. TVS is using a dual base split frame for the Apache RTR 200 4V. The motorcycle’s braking duties are handled by 270mm discs at the front and 240mm discs at the rear. TVS uses petal disc brakes and offers single and dual channel ABS for the motorcycle.

In terms of functionality, the Pulsar’s semi-digital instrument cluster can now display an empty distance readout, instantaneous fuel economy, gear indicator and average fuel economy. There is also a side bracket cut off. However, motorcycle headlights and turn indicators still use halogen lamps.

The Apache RTR 200 4V features an adjustable clutch lever, LED head and tail lights, riding modes and a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.

The 2023 iteration of the Pulsar NS200 is priced at ¥147,000 ex-showroom. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is priced between ¥140,000 and ¥145k, depending on variant. Both prices are ex-showroom prices.
