Ampere Vehicles, owned by Greaves Cotton Limited, will bring a disc brake version of the Primus electric scooter. The Ampere Primus high-speed electric scooter, which was unveiled earlier this January at the 2023 Auto Expo, features drum brakes front and rear. However, the EV company has been planning a new model with disc brakes at the front.
Ampere’s CTO Ram Rajappa said in an exclusive interaction with HT Auto that the company is now planning to launch a disc brake variant of the Ampere Primus electric scooter. He also said a disc brake version would arrive later in 2023.

Rajappa mentioned that the company is currently exploring customer reviews and feedback. Based on these, the EV manufacturer will make the necessary updates to the disc brake version of the Primus. However, he did not reveal the expected price of the variant. However, it’s likely to cost slightly more than the current drum brake version, which is priced at ¥109,900 (ex-showroom, Derry).
Talking about other upcoming products from the EV maker, Rajappa further said that there will be a fully functional product with a touchscreen and a range of connectivity options, among other features.
Ampere CEO Sanjay Behl also hinted that the company is working on an all-gear electric scooter that will launch soon. He said the electric vehicle maker has been working on entering multiple segments of the rapidly expanding Indian electric scooter market.
On Wednesday, Ampere unveiled its product strategy and said it aims to expand into the B2C and B2B segments by introducing scooters in the private buyer and last-mile delivery categories. Currently, the company sells three electric scooters: the Primus, Magnus EX and Zeal EX. However, with an aggressive product strategy, the company plans to launch several models in the current financial year.
