Piaggio India has confirmed that it will launch a new scooter in the Indian market, which will be called the Typhoon based on the Aprilia SR series. The Aprilia Typhoon could be a new entry-level model in the company’s lineup, possibly replacing the Storm 125 currently on sale.
Piaggio is celebrating its 25th anniversary in India and to mark the occasion, the company has made several major announcements ranging from product upgrades to new products. Aprilia Typhoon will be available in 125 cc and is expected to arrive as early as March this year. While the company does sell the Aprilia Typhoon 125 internationally, the India-spec version is expected to feature upgrades in terms of styling, features and improved hardware. The new scooters will also be OBD 2 compliant to comply with the new norms.

Aprilia Typhoon 125 will be equipped with updated i-get Euro5 125 cc engine, OBD 2 compliant
Expect to see LED headlights, digital console, combined brakes and more on the Aprilia Typhoon 125. The model will also get an upgraded i-get Euro5 engine which is OBD 2 compliant. In fact, Piaggio will update its entire range of scooters to OBD 2 compliant i-get Euro5 engines before the April 1 deadline. The new motor promises improved performance, better acceleration, lower emissions, and more.

Apart from scooters, the Aprilia brand will also enter the entry-level motorcycle market in India this year. Piaggio has already declared its intention to do the same, with the upcoming motorcycle expected to be called the RS440, competing in the segment with the BMW G 310 RR, KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. Expect more announcements from Piaggio in the coming weeks.
