Ather Energy dropped a new teaser on its social media handle, and the red color hints at a new color option for the 450X electric scooter. Maker plans to make a major announcement on Ather Community Day on January 7, 2023. We think new color options will be one of them, along with feature upgrades and new accessories.
One of the most common complaints we have about the Ather 450X Gen 3 is the lack of available color options. Ather appears to have addressed this issue with the latest update by adding a fourth color option to the scooter. The 450X is currently available in white, space gray, and mint green, and when the Gen 2 version arrives in 2020, the company did introduce a Series 1 limited-edition black and red paint scheme for select customers.

We don’t expect any major mechanical changes for the Ather 450X Gen 3. The model will feature the same mechanicals and frame, all of which were recently updated. Power will come from the familiar PMS electric motor, tuned to 8.31 bhp and 26 Nm of peak torque on the 450X. Meanwhile, the 450 Plus has 7.24 horsepower and 22 Nm of peak torque. The third-generation version also features a larger 3.7 kWh battery pack, which is 25 percent larger, and promises a range of 105 kilometers on a true charge.
The Ather 450X sells for ¥139,000, while the more affordable 450 Plus is priced at ¥117,000 (all prices ex-showroom Delhi after subsidies). With the latest update, a modest price increase is expected in the new year. More details on availability, delivery, and more will be available later this week. New colors and upgrades will only help Ather Energy deliver impressive growth, especially as brands like Ola Electric catch up, while Simple Energy and Vida from Hero MotoCorp will both be very capable competition this year opponent.

Ather Energy did close the last calendar year with a high of 9,187 units sold in December 2022. The company grew 389% year-over-year. The company will continue to aggressively expand its dealer network this year and has opened a second manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu late last year. The Bengaluru-based manufacturer is expected to start exporting this year as well.
