Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has announced that they have set up more than 1,000 fast charging stations across India. They call their charging network Ather Grid. The brand plans to increase that number to more than 2,500 by the end of 2023. Limited charging stations are one of the main reasons people are hesitant to transition to electric vehicles.
Ather Energy has also released the IP for the charging connector to all OEMs, paving the way for an interoperable two-wheeler fast charging platform. As of now, only Hero MotoCorp’s Vida is using the Ather’s charging connector.
Ather Grid is already the largest charging network in India. They have already installed 60% of the chargers in the second and third tier cities. Ather also strategically installs these grids in various cities to enable intercity transportation. The brand claims that consumers can now easily plan trips from Pune to Mumbai, Siliguri to Darjeeling or Coimbatore to Ooty, just to name a few.

Ather currently sells the 450 Plus and 450X electric scooters. Fast charging stations enable owners to charge their vehicles up to 80% at a speed of 1.5 km/min. The charging network is powered by the Ather Grid App, allowing all EV owners to locate and check the availability of the nearest charging station in real time. The facility is free until March 2023.
Commenting on the milestone, Ravneet Phokela, Chief Commercial Officer of Ather Energy, said: “A strong charging infrastructure is one of the main drivers accelerating EV adoption. As a brand focused on building a vibrant EV ecosystem, we have Strong investments have been made in building what is already the largest public fast charging network in India. We are accelerating the scale-up and adding Neighborhood Charging – a charging solution focused on semi-private spaces such as apartment buildings, offices, tech parks, etc. We stay Come down and commit to making strategic investments in the space and supporting the growth of the industry.”
