After rolling out a software update for owners of 450X Gen3 electric scooters, Bengaluru-based electric vehicle maker Ather Energy said that starting next week, the new update will also apply to older generation 450X models. Ather Energy founder and CEO Tarun Mehta announced today that the upgraded AtherStack 5.0 update will be available to 450X Gen2 owners by the end of next week. Atherstack is the software that runs Ather’s electric scooters, similar to what MoveOS has done for Ola’s electric scooters.
The software update was first rolled out on January 7 of this year. According to the electric automaker, nearly 80 percent of 450X Gen3 electric scooter owners have updated the software so far. On Saturday, Tarun Mehta said, “As promised, AtherStack 5.0 has rolled out to all Gen3 owners and 80% have already upgraded. Gen2 owners will start receiving the update and we will ensure 100% coverage by next week. “
The AtherStack 5.0 software update adds many new features to the 450 electric scooter. The biggest feature update added by Ather is the AutoHold feature. This will help stop the scooter from rolling down slopes without the rider having to continuously hit the brakes. The experience is fully automatic, immediate and consistent in any riding condition. One of Ather Energy’s main competitors, Ola Electric, introduced a similar feature in its latest MoveOS 3.0 update.
Ather also introduces a new user interface. It now shows power consumption and power consumption in different modes. The home screen has been redesigned to allow users to set up their ride with options like Bluetooth connectivity and navigation before firing up the motor. In the latest update, people will be able to swipe through these features instead of tapping the screen.
After the latest update, Ather 450X users can also access vector maps for easier navigation. Ather is the only scooter in the world that offers on-board navigation powered by Google Maps. It will help riders know real-time traffic and navigation updates. Cycling can also change the perspective of the map by rotating the layout.
