Ather Energy revamped the 450X line in April, slashed prices and discontinued the 450 Plus

Even though Ather slashed the price of the 450X in April, sales were down. The company explained that uncertainty surrounding the FAME II policy had an impact on April sales. Last month, Ather Energy and several other electric OEMs were embroiled in a controversy over EV chargers sold to customers at a premium. This is done to meet the subsidy eligibility limits for FAME II ¥150,000 (ex-factory price).

Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Commercial Officer, Ather Energy said, “We delivered 8,182 scooters in April, an increase of 117% year-on-year. Compared to March ’23, sales volumes were down for the month due to the FAME policy and its knock-on effects We continue to see a steady increase in demand across the country and we are increasing our retail footprint to meet demand. We currently have 120 retail stores and over 1,300 Ather Grid fast chargers in 87 cities.”

Following the government’s decision to suspend FAME II subsidies to players, Ather decided to revise its lineup last month, discontinuing the 450 Plus, while the 450X is now the only variant available in Standard and Pro Pack guises. The cost of the charger is now bundled into the vehicle’s new pre-showroom cost. The Ather 450X is now priced at ¥115,000 for the base variant, going up to ¥145k (ex-showroom, Bangalore after FAME II subsidy) for the Pro Pack and all the bells and whistles.price dropped ¥10,000-15,000 compared to the old model.

More attractive prices should boost the sales growth Ather is looking for. The manufacturer has also been expanding its presence in India and now has 120 experience centers in 87 cities. Ather is also working on expanding its charging network for 450 and 450X customers.
