Bajaj Auto owns the trademarks of the Swinger and Genie names. A new electric car coming soon?

Bajaj Auto has registered the Swinger and Genie trademarks in India, hinting at a new product launch from the Chakan-based manufacturer. The Indian government’s Patent Designs and Trademarks website shows the names were registered in May this year, but says little about the body styles of the expected products for which they will be used. However, we think the Swinger and Genie names might apply to the company’s new electric vehicles in the pipeline.

The Bajaj Swinger and Genie names could be used for upcoming electric scooters that will join Chetak in the near future. It’s also possible that Bajaj will use the same technology for its upcoming electric three-wheeler, which has been spotted testing several times in the past. However, a brand name does not guarantee that the name will be used for a new product in the future.

Bajaj Chetak is now widely localized and supply chain constraints are simplified to make way for more of the company’s products

Previously, Bajaj had registered trade names such as Aura, Hammer and Racer, but not yet for two- or three-wheelers. So there’s no real guarantee that future models will use those names, or the new ones entirely. What we do know is that the manufacturer is planning an EV attack under the Chetak brand.

Bajaj Auto seems to have finally solved Chetak’s supply chain issues, whose sales have been tightly controlled so far. With the model now widely localized, Bajaj may be in a better position to launch new products under the Chetak brand as far as the EV business is concerned. However, it will be some time before these EVs hit the market.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto is preparing to launch its first motorcycle in partnership with Triumph Motorcycles. Triumph’s most affordable motorcycle is due to launch on July 5, 2023, likely to be a 400cc motorcycle that will be available in Roadster and Scrambler body styles. Although Triumph developed the motorcycle, it will be manufactured by Bajaj in India for the domestic and export markets. Further details on the upcoming line of motorcycles will be announced in a few days. Stay tuned to this space.
