Bajaj Auto will most likely soon launch an updated version of its Chetak electric scooter with a longer range. According to the RTO document, the Bajaj Chetak has a 20% increase in range and a range of 108 kilometers on a single charge. The current version promises a range of 90 kilometers on a single charge. The 2.88 kWh battery pack is the same as in the documentation.
Bajaj likely made a software update to the electric scooter to extract more range. While not specified, the battery management system (BMS) could see improvements to optimize efficiency and thus improve the Chetak’s range. The leaked document also confirms that the power output will not change. The scooter uses a 4 kW (5.3 bhp) PMS motor to power the rear wheels. Top speed is around 70 km/h.

With the added range, the Bajaj Chetak manages to outperform the TVS iQube S variant which promises a range of 100km on a single charge. Meanwhile, rivals such as the Vida V1 Pro, Ather 450X and Ola S1 Pro have ranges of 165km, 146km and 170km on a single charge respectively.
The Bajaj Chetak is arguably one of the company’s best models. However, the manufacturer has been at a disadvantage when it comes to debuting electric products. Still, the company plans to rapidly expand its presence across the country with more experience centers, taking Chetak into new markets. In terms of functionality, this model comes with an LCD unit, lighting, soft-touch switchgear and a metal body.
Bajaj Chetak prices currently start from ¥151,000 (ex-showroom after FAME II subsidy). While we don’t expect a price cut for the latest version, the model will feel slightly better against rivals in the e-scooter space.
