BMW iX2 EV to start production in late 2023, looks nearly identical to X2


BMW has confirmed it will begin production of the iX2 electric crossover, an all-electric version of its X2 SUV. The head of BMW’s Regensburg plant has revealed that series production of the iX2 will begin by the end of this year. He also revealed that the electric crossover will be assembled at the same factory as the traditionally shaped iX1.

The report says the BMW iX2 will carry the same design as the conventional petrol-powered X2. That means the iX2 is nearly identical to the X2. However, as the automaker plans to launch a completely revamped X2 later this decade, the iX2’s design will also change when the automaker gives EVs its much-anticipated dedicated pure-electric platform, the Neue Klasse. different. In this case, buyers will have to wait until 2025 to see an iX2 with a different design. By then, the all-electric iX2 and conventional X2 will have a similar design.

Speaking of its styling, the BMW iX2 will feature a closed grille rather than a radiator grille mesh, which is typical of any modern EV, since electric motors on EVs don’t require the same amount of cooling as internal combustion engines. There will be an all-black exposed square in the grille that houses the vehicle’s various safety sensors and other crash-avoidance hardware.

In terms of powertrain, the BMW iX2 is expected to share its powertrain with the iX1. In that case, the electric crossover would feature a dual-motor setup, with each motor generating electricity for one axle. Combined, the electric powertrain will be able to output a peak power of 313 horsepower and a maximum torque of 494 Nm. There will also be a single-motor variant, which will be cheaper than the dual-motor variant.
