Citroen recently released a teaser of an electric car called the eC3. The automaker says more details will be revealed soon, expected in the weeks leading up to the official unveiling. Citroen earlier confirmed that the eC3 EV will be produced locally in India, which will help the automaker price aggressively.

The cost of EVs is one of the most important factors in India, where sub-1 million EVs are rare. Carlos Tavares has previously said, “How to make electric vehicles affordable to the middle class is the biggest challenge. Only accessibility can achieve scale and have a significant impact on the environment.” Local production of electric vehicles will help Citroen keep the cost of the eC3 as low as possible.

To keep costs in check, Citroen is expected to use local suppliers who can supply battery materials. The eC3 is expected to feature a small battery with a capacity of around 30 kWh. Tavares has said, “India has a great opportunity to be able to sell electric compact cars at an affordable price while protecting profitability. Exports are possible because the country has such a cost-competitive supplier base.” .”

Citroen has been spotted testing the eC3 on several occasions ahead of its debut. When launched, the electric hatchback with SUV proportions is likely to be one of the most affordable EVs on Indian roads. It will take on the likes of the Tata Tiago EV, currently the most affordable car in the segment
