Citroen’s My Ami Buggy mini electric car sold out in 10 hours

SUVs may be the body type of choice for most car buyers around the world, but what the Citroen My Ami Buggy micro electric car lacks in sheer road presence it more than makes up for in novelty. No wonder when the French manufacturer reopened pre-orders for the My Ami Buggy, it sold out within hours.

Citroen’s My Ami Buggy is positioned as a four-wheeler, a viable option in busy cities.

Citroen recently opened up pre-orders for the My Ami Buggy EV in select markets, and the response has been overwhelming, with all available vehicles being sold out at lightning speed. But this isn’t the first time such a reaction has occurred. Previously, the manufacturer offered the model in France, Belgium and Spain, and each time, all available units were purchased almost immediately.

Currently, Citroen My Ami Buggy is available for purchase in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Greece and other countries. Newly manufactured electric vehicles will also enter Türkiye and Morocco. But only a few hundred units were rolled out in each production batch.

Available quantities may be limited, but even so, the response every time the purchase window opens is pretty amazing. But a closer look at My Ami Buggy may reveal why.

The My Ami Buggy is priced between €7,790 and €10,450 (approx. $700,000 and $930,000). The price range alone makes it a very profitable option. But there’s a lot more to offer than just the pricing. The micro EV is an ultra-compact vehicle that offers left-hand drive options. It is equipped with a 5.4kWh battery pack and can travel 75 kilometers per charge. It also has a fairly limited top speed of 45 km/h. Those numbers might not seem impressive, but remember that the vehicle’s positioning is for big cities, where fast transit is essential for many. Therefore, electric cars are not allowed to drive on the highway.

Citroen calls the My Ami Buggy a four-wheeler and clarifies that the model can hold up to 140kg in addition to the driver – cargo or passengers, or both. And with the many customization options available, this model also has a very unique look.

Currently, there is no sign that Citroen India is considering launching the model on our shores. Although micro and small EVs like the MG Comet and Tiago EV have already been launched here.
