Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Ducati recently launched their first off-road adventure tourer in the Indian market. Called DesertX, it was first shown in concept form in 2019. It was launched in global markets in 2021 and now it is finally available in India. Pre-orders for the Ducati DesertX are already open and deliveries will start from the first week of January 2023. Ducati DesertX: Appearance
The shape of DesertX inherits the concept presented at EICMA 2019. The motorcycle features twin-pod headlamps, half fairing, windshield, split seat setup, side-mounted exhaust, wire-spoke wheels and a fender to protect the engine. One look and you know the DesertX is a motocross bike.
Ducati DesertX: Specifications
Ducati is using its 937 cc liquid-cooled L-twin engine. The “Testastretta”, as Ducati likes to call it, is also used on the Multistrada V2 and the new Monster. The engine develops a maximum power of 110 bhp at 9,250 rpm and a peak torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is fitted to a 6-speed unit which has a different gear ratio compared to the Multistrada V2. All gear ratios have been shortened to fifth gear to ensure optimum off-road performance.

Ducati DesertX: Hardware
An off-road adventure wagon, the DesertX is equipped with tubeless spoked wheels measuring 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. The tires are from Pirelli and they are Scorpion Rally STR. Suspension duties are handled by a 46mm upside-down fork at the front with 230mm of travel and a rear single shock with 220mm of travel. The suspension is from KYB. Braking duties are performed by twin 320 discs and M50 integral radial calipers at the front and 265 mm discs and Brembo twin-piston floating calipers at the rear.
Ducati DesertX: Features
In terms of functionality, DesertX is equipped with full LED lighting and a vertically positioned 5-inch TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity. There are six riding modes – Enduro, Rally, Sport, Wet, Touring and Urban. Ducati also offers four power modes – full power, high power, mid power and low power. Other features on offer include quick shifter, cornering ABS, engine brake control, wheelie control, cruise control and more.
Ducati DesertX: Price and Competitors
The price of Ducati DesertX is ¥1.791 million (ex-showroom).It will compete with the Honda Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger 900 and BMW F850GS.
