Nissan has unveiled a special edition of its Ariya electric SUV, built for breathtaking driving adventures between the Arctic and Antarctic.

British explorers Chris and Julie Ramsey will help demonstrate the potential of Nissan’s new battery-powered family car.

The pair will cover nearly 17,000 miles on a 10-month journey starting in March 2023. On the way, Ariya will encounter ice fields, snowstorms and desert dunes.

Arctic Trucks, known for their expedition vehicles, has adapted the Ariya for pole-to-pole journeys. This includes a suspension lift that allows for a massive set of 39-inch BF Goodrich tires.

Huge flared wheel arches were needed to accommodate the larger tires, while also adding a lot of underbody protection.

The Ariya is the first battery powered vehicle converted by Arctic Trucks. However, the electric drivetrain and battery remain the same, and e-4orce all-wheel drive is standard.

for polar charge, an innovative renewable energy device will be towed behind Ariya. This combines wind turbines with solar panels, allowing Nissan’s battery packs to be charged entirely off the grid.

Julie Ramsey, Ariya’s co-pilot, said: “Pole-to-pole planning and preparation has been a big part of our lives for the past four years, so I’m really looking forward to the ride.

“We will discover many interesting initiatives from communities and individuals who are taking positive action on climate change and I look forward to sharing these experiences and stories with you. We are doing something that has never been attempted before and it is a world first , and ultimately that’s what makes it so exciting.”
