Ford Motor Co. said Friday that it is on track to resume production of the F-150 Lightning vehicle on Monday. 2 US automakers recall 18 electric trucks due to battery manufacturing defects. The recall announced Friday stems from a four-week period of production that began late last year. Ford said it recently determined that “18 vehicles with batteries from this 4-week period have been delivered to dealers and customers.”
Ford said it would replace the battery packs in the 18 vehicles, but said it was not aware of any fires or any injuries related to the recall. The automaker had previously announced plans to restart production on Monday after it was halted in early February when electric vehicle batteries caught fire. Ford said an electric truck caught fire on Feb. 4 during a pre-delivery quality inspection at a company holding yard in Dearborn, Mich., and spread to two other trucks. The automaker halted production the next day.

The automaker said on Friday that “the identified root cause was related to battery production at the SK On plant in Georgia. SK On is the automotive battery division of SK Innovation. Together with SK On, Ford said it had “identified the root cause and Quality actions implemented. “
Ford said on Friday that it still hadn’t set a date for resuming deliveries, but said production was on track to resume on Monday with “ample battery pack inventory.”
