After quite a delay, Volvo Cars India launched the XC40 Recharge in July this year.Selling for ¥5.590 million (ex-showroom), the EV is based on the ICE version of the XC40 SUV. When launched, the battery-powered model is the most affordable offering in the country’s luxury EV segment. It competes with other luxury EVs such as the Kia EV6, Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes EQC. The EV draws power from a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, allowing it to travel more than 400 kilometers on a single charge. However, the electric SUV has a certified range of about 335 kilometers, which is more likely to be real-world range.

The Kia EV6 was brought to India in a limited number of 100 units, more of a showcase of the automaker’s intentions in the Indian EV segment. The Tata Nexon EV Max is a long-range version of the automaker’s popular Nexon electric vehicle.It will be launched domestically in May this year, with a starting price of ¥1.774 million, rising to ¥1.924 million (ex-showroom). With an ARAI-certified range of 437 km per charge, the Nexon EV Max is expected to surpass a handful of rivals like the Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV. The vehicle is powered by a larger battery than the one on the Nexon EV. It comes with a boot capacity of 350 liters.
