India’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp plans to launch the largest number of models this year, including electric two-wheelers and premium bicycles. Hero MotoCorp CEO Niranjan Gupta said the new bikes will include entry-level and luxury models. Hero also plans to launch a new electric two-wheeler under its latest brand, Vida, in the coming months. Most anticipated, however, is the first model jointly produced by Hero and Harley-Davidson.

Hero MotoCorp plans to launch new bikes in 2023, including the first product from Hero MotoCorp’s collaboration with Harley-Davidson.

Back in October 2020, Hero MotoCorp had partnered with US-based two-wheeler brand Harley-Davidson for the Indian market. Hero didn’t give an exact timeline for when to expect the Hero-Harley premium model. As of now, it is only known that the new bike will have a single-cylinder 420cc engine. The new bike will rival the likes of the Royal Enfield 350, Honda H’ness 350 and Bajaj Triumph 350cc and is expected to launch this year.

Hero MotoCorp is currently leading the entry level bike market in India offering models with 100cc 110cc engines. The two-wheeler manufacturer aims to increase its product portfolio from the 125 cc range to the 160 cc range. “We will launch products every quarter of this fiscal year. This fiscal year, we may see the highest number of product launches in the history of the company,” Niranjan Gupta said.

Gupta added that Hero MotoCorp will launch many new models in the premium segment this year. The new high-end bikes will be offered in 150cc and 450cc power ranges. “We are excited about this fiscal year and look forward to building on our market share and margin recovery. We have a number of new product launches and we will be introducing new products each quarter of this fiscal year. There will be large launches. …..this will ensure that we can build the right mix of premium products with which to gain our market share,” he said.

In addition to regular ICE models, Hero MotCorp is looking to bolster its electric vehicle portfolio with the help of its new brand, Vida. Hero Vida is currently aiming to expand its footprint in India, with operations in over 100 cities. “At Hero, we have the broadest and deepest distribution system in the country, which we will leverage to secure our presence in the electric vehicle business,” Gupta said.

Hero MotoCorp is India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer with over 5% market share in the motorcycle segment. The company increased its market share in the 125cc segment to 22% in the fourth quarter.
