Hero MotoCorp partners with Zero Motorcycles to develop premium electric motorcycle

Hero MotoCorp on Monday announced a partnership with U.S. premium electric motorcycle and powertrain maker Zero Motorcycles to develop high-end electric motorcycles. The collaboration comes as the local two-wheeler maker is targeting electric motorcycles and high-end products. Hero MotoCorp’s ambitions to move upmarket aren’t new, and with the advent of electric vehicles, the company is setting its sights on the premium electric motorcycle category.

An official statement from Hero MotoCorp said the partnership will combine Zero’s expertise in developing powertrains and electric motorcycles with the Indian company’s manufacturing, sourcing and marketing scale. The partnership follows Hero MotoCorp’s $60 million investment in Zero Motorcycles in September 2022. The partnership means that Hero can sell Zero Motorcycles in India through its vast dealer network, while the US company can manufacture its products locally in India.

Speaking of this partnership, Hero MotoCorp Chairman and CEO Pawan Munjal embarked on a journey into the era of sustainable and clean mobility technology. “Our partnership with Zero Motorcycles is an important milestone in our journey towards an era of sustainable clean technology in mobility. With Zero as our partner, we look forward to accelerating the transformation of electric vehicles in India and our global markets,” said Munjal explain.

Zero Motorcycles CEO Sam Paschel said both companies are committed to changing the riding experience and bringing great innovations to the world. “With these shared passions, we look forward to delivering exceptional value, performance and fun to our customers,” he said.

However, despite the announced partnership, neither company has revealed anything about their product strategy. Interestingly, Hero MotoCorp launched its first e-scooter Vida V1 a few days ago, a premium electric two-wheeler, marking the local brand’s entry into the EV segment.
