Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has been teasing its upcoming 100cc commuter bike which will be launched on March 15, 2023. The new product may be called the “Honda Shine 100,” as the Japanese two-wheeler giant prepares to take on erstwhile partner Hero MotoCorp in its stronghold of entry-level commuter motorcycles.
The upcoming 100 cc Honda commuter means huge sales for the manufacturer. The teaser hints that the company is targeting the semi-urban and rural markets, which is where products like the Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe, Bajaj Platina and TVS Star City have a strong presence. New commuter vehicles will compete with these models and should generate solid sales for the manufacturer.

The teaser images also promise a simple, no-nonsense commuter bike with bike fairings, wide rear pull-back handlebars, integrated seats, alloy wheels and side-mounted exhaust. The styling appears to be a stripped down version of the Honda CB Shine 125. Other components include telescoping front forks and rear twin shock absorbers, drum brakes with an optional front disc brake version, and an analogue console with digital readout.
Details about the motor have now been announced, but the 100 cc unit will have a single-cylinder air-cooled layout. Power and torque figures should be around 8 bhp and 8 Nm peak torque, on par with rivals. It will be the smallest displacement engine sold by Honda in the country and will meet new OBD-II and RDE compliance norms. Expect it to be ready for E20 as well.Expect the new Honda 100cc commuter to cost between ¥70,000-72,000 (ex-showroom), which will undercut Hero Splendor’s entry price ¥72,000.That said, Bajaj Platina is the most readily available product here ¥65,856. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
