Honda fully prepared to adopt new emissions standards: details

Honda recently launched the Activa H-Smart in the Indian market. This is also their first scooter to be BS6 RDE compliant. At the event, Atsushi Ogata, MD, President and CEO of Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Ltd, announced that Honda is well prepared to adopt the OBD-2 or RDE norms that will come into force on April 1, 2023. The brand also announced that they will be updating all their scooters by June this year.

Honda has launched the new Activa with a starting price of Rs 74,536 (ex-showroom).

In addition to the RDE specification, Honda will also develop scooters and motorcycles that can use fuel types from E20 to E85. As of now, it is unclear which vehicles will be able to run on alternative fuels.

The new Activa is Honda’s first BS6 Stage 2 compliant product. The engine is a 110 cc fuel injected unit with a silent starter.

Honda offers three variants of the Activa. There are standard type, luxury type and intelligent type. Available in six colors. Available in Decent Blue Metallic, Rebel Red Metallic, Black, Pearl Precious White and Matte Axis Gray Metallic. For 2023, Honda added a new color scheme called Pearl Siren Blue.

The biggest highlight of the Activa is the new H-Smart technology, which is only available on high-end models. H-Smart or Honda Smart is essentially a smart key technology. It provides four functions, which are:

Smart Unlocking: A smart key system is a newer technology feature that allows the vehicle to be locked and unlocked without the use of a physical key. If the system detects no activity within 20 seconds of activation, the scooter will automatically deactivate.

Smart start: If the smart key is within 2 meters of the vehicle, the rider only needs to turn the knob on the Lock Mod to the ignition position and press the start button to start the vehicle smoothly without even taking out the key.

Smart Safe: Activa is equipped with a mapping smart ECU, which acts as a security device through electronic matching (ID) between the ECU and the smart key, thereby preventing the vehicle from being stolen. The smart key has an anti-theft system that prevents an unregistered key from starting the engine. The anti-theft system will not be activated without a secure connection to the smart key.
