Honda has launched the EM1 e:, its first electric two-wheeler for the European market. In September last year, Honda revealed its electric vehicle transition plan, planning to launch more than a dozen electric models in Europe by 2025. The first of these, the EM1 e: the electric two-wheeler, will be presented at EICMA two months later at the Milan International Fair in 2022.
The name of the electric two-wheeler suggests that this is a moped rather than a scooter. The initials EM stand for Electric Moped. EM1 e: With a compact and flat floor, the shape is smooth. The design looks futuristic but minimal, and Honda didn’t take any risks to make the scooter stand out. The turn indicators are located on the handlebars, while the LED headlight units are located on the front fender. The rear footboard is subtly integrated with the body, and the armrest looks very practical.
EM1 e: Built around a steel frame with a 31mm telescopic fork at the front and two shocks at the rear. Its saddle is 740mm lower and it weighs just 95kg including the battery. Front brakes feature discs and single-piston calipers, rear drums. The braking system is also supported by Combined Braking (CBS).
Honda EM1 e: Equipped with features such as digital display, USB Type-A charging power supply, 3.3 liters of under-saddle storage space, transport rack and folding passenger footrest.
Honda equipped the EM1 e with an all-new electric motor mounted in the rear. It produces around 2.3 hp and 90 Nm of peak torque. Honda claims the EM1 e: can take a 75kg rider up a 10-degree slope. The EM1 e: is powered by a 1.5kWh lithium-ion battery, which weighs around 10kg and can be removed and taken home to recharge.
With the help of ECON mode, Honda claims the battery can theoretically travel 48 kilometers on a single charge. However, the average range of electric mopeds is about 41 kilometers. Using a common household charger, the battery can be charged from 25% to 75% in 160 minutes.
