The Honda Shine 100 is the latest entry in the 100 cc commuter motorcycle segment that is in high demand in the Indian two-wheeler segment. The Japanese two-wheeler maker aims to capture a sizeable share of the category, where Hero MotoCorp already sells models like the Splendor Plus and HF Dexlue. Bajaj Auto also sells its Platina 100 in the same space. Clearly, it won’t be easy for the Honda Shine 100 to carve out a place in the segment.

In India’s high-demand 100cc commuter motorcycle segment, the Honda Shine competes with rivals like the Hero Splendor Plus, Hero HF Deluxe and Bajaj Platina 100.

The Bajaj Platina may be at the higher end of the segment as it is a bit premium compared to the newly launched Honda Shine 100, but the brand value of the Platina is well established. How the Honda Shine 100 will stack up against the Bajaj Platina 100 remains to be seen.

The Honda Shine 100 is priced at ¥64,900 (ex-showroom, Mumbai), while the Bajaj Platina 100 costs slightly more than that ¥67,475 (ex-showroom).

Honda Shine 100 vs Bajaj Platina 100: Specifications

Powering the Honda Shine 100 is an all-new 99.7 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 7.6 hp and 8.05 Nm of torque. This 99.7 cc engine is OBD-II and E20 fuel compliant. The power mill is said to have a fuel pump on the outside of the tank to make servicing easier. In addition, it has an automatic choke function that ensures that the motorcycle starts regardless of the ambient temperature. Honda hasn’t specified mileage, but it says the Shine 100 has class-leading fuel efficiency.

The Bajaj Platina 100 has the largest displacement engine in the segment at 102 cc, bigger than the Hero Splendor Plus and Hero HF Deluxe. This single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces a peak power of 7.9 hp and a maximum torque of 8.3 Nm. It’s clearly more powerful than the Honda Shine 100, and produces more torque. The Honda Shine 100 and Bajaj Platina 100 motorcycles are equipped with a four-speed manual transmission.
