Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV unveiled in India, pre-orders start at Rs 1 lakh

After a long wait, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV has finally been unveiled in India. The new product is positioned as an SUV and will become the brand’s new flagship product.The automaker will start taking Ioniq 5 pre-orders for a nominal amount ¥It has 100,000 on its website, and the launch will take place next year.

The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s second all-electric model to launch in India after the Kona Electric. It will compete with the Kia EV6, Mercedes-Benz EQB and likes in the segment. The Hyundai flagship is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which also underpins the EV6.

According to the ARAI standard, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 promises a range of up to 631 kilometers on a single charge when equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery pack.

The modern Ioniq 5 builds on the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness theme with a futuristic design. The minimalist theme keeps angular lines to a minimum, while you also get Active Air Flaps (AAF) for better aerodynamics. The model features parametric pixel LED headlights and a clamshell bonnet, while the pixel theme extends to the alloy wheels. You also get automatic flush door handles. At the rear, the sporty parametric Pixel LED taillights with the Hyundai logo are located in the center of the boot lid. The EV is 4,635mm long x 1,890mm wide x 1,625mm high. The wheelbase is 3,000mm.

Power comes from a 72.6 kWh battery pack placed in the floor, with a range of up to 631 km (ARAI certified). The electric motor produces 214 horsepower and 350 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai claims it can charge an EV from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. It also comes with Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS and Vehicle 2 Load features.

The cabin is trimmed in dark pebble gray for an upscale look. It features eco-treated leather seat upholstery, soft-touch materials on the dashboard, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, a Bose audio system, ventilated seats, dual zone climate control and more. This model also gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, engine parking brake, all four disc brakes and more as part of the safety package. Boot capacity is 571 litres, and a front boot is also available.

The Ioniq 5 will be available in three colors – Gravity gold matte, Optic white and Midnight black pearl.
