The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the brand’s second all-electric model after the Kona Electric SUV. The model, although positioned at the high end of the segment, will be the automaker’s new flagship. From every angle, this stylized EV looks smart, quirky, and fun, and its specs are equally impressive.

Powering the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a 72.6 kWh battery pack with a range of 631 km on a single charge (ARAI certified). The EV features a single axle-mounted electric motor producing 214 bhp of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai claims it can charge an EV from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. It also features Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS, Vehicle 2 Load function, six airbags, ABS with EBD, and other active and passive safety features.

It also packs a lot of features, including a 12.3-inch digital console and touchscreen infotainment system. There’s also connected car technology with more than 60 functions, a Bose sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, ventilated seats with memory, and more.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV will come to India as a semi-kick-off (SKD) kit, which means the price should be more competitive than its cousin – the Kia EV6 – which was launched as a CBU earlier this year. The Kia flagship is priced between ¥5.995 million and ¥6.495 million, we can expect the Ioniq 5 to start slightly higher than the ¥5 million (all prices, ex-showroom). That puts the model up against the MINI Cooper SE in the EV segment. Given the overwhelming response to the EV6, Hyundai believes the Ioniq 5 will be another success story as the company’s electric vehicle plans gain momentum in India.
