Hyundai Ioniq 5 unveiled in India: 5 things you should know

The Ioniq 5 was a hit in the global market and finally made its way to the Indian market. After several teasers and spy shots, Hyundai has launched the Ioniq 5 for India.Manufacturers have also begun to accept reservations, and the token amount has been set to ¥100,000. Now that Hyundai has revealed details about the India-spec Ioniq 5, here are five things to know about the new flagship EV.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Battery and driving range

The battery pack capacity of the Ioniq 5 is 72.6 kWh, which can provide an ARAI rated range of 631 kilometers. If the person uses a 350 kW DC charger, the battery pack can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Ioniq 5 also supports 400V and 800V architectures.

The Ioniq 5 uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 214 bhp of power and a peak torque output of 350 Nm. The electric motor is mounted on the rear axle. In global markets, the Ioniq 5 is also available with an all-wheel-drive powertrain. Interestingly, Kia also sells an AWD variant of the EV6 in India.

In terms of features, the Ioniq 5 is packed with a lot. It comes with a V2L or vehicle loading capability and can power the customer’s appliances. The instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system have two 12.3-inch screens. There are sounds of nature, more than 60 connected functions, voice assistant, power tailgate, LED lighting, automatic defogger, ventilated and heated seats, dual-zone climate control, lounge seating and more.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: ADAS and safety features

The Ioniq 5 is equipped with Level 2 ADAS features. There’s Forward Collision Warning and Assist, Blind Spot Collision Warning and Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Attention Warning, Blind Spot View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and more. Apart from that, the Ioniq 5 also comes with 6 airbags, virtual engine sound, all four disc brakes and much more.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: launch and price

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be launched on January 11, 2023 at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023. The manufacturer will offer the EV as a semi-knock-down (SKD) kit, which means it will cost less than its sibling, the Kia EV6, with which the Ioniq 5 shares a lot of ground. The EV6 is priced between ¥5.995 million and ¥6.495 lakh and it’s coming to India as a CBU or fully built unit so expect the Ioniq 5 to start from approx ¥5 million (all prices are ex-showroom)
