Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are direct competitors in India’s EV segment. While both the Ioniq 5 and EV6 are based on the e-GMP or Electric-Global modular platform that underpins pure electric models in South Korea, these particular EVs will now vie for attention in the still fairly small EV market here.
The Kia EV6 is launched in India in 2022 and enters via the import route, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is officially launched at the Auto Expo in January 2023 and enters via the CKD or full teardown route. This allows Hyundai to position the Ioniq 5 more attractively in terms of pricing.At launch, the Ioniq 5 was in ¥The first 500 pre-ordered 4.5 million, and now it is ¥4.6 million (ex-showroom).In comparison, the Kia EV6 is much more expensive ¥6.1 million (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Ioniq 5 vs Kia EV6: Battery and range
The e-GMP platform was jointly developed by Hyundai and Kia, so the Ioniq 5 and EV6 are largely similar in many ways. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India offers a 72.6 kWh battery pack, although there is also a 58 kWh pack option in foreign markets. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a claimed range of 631 km (ARAI certified).
The Kia EV6 has a larger 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, but its WLTP-certified range is about 500 kilometers.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 60mm shorter than the Kia EV6. However, the Ioniq 5 is 55mm taller, while also having a 100mm advantage in wheelbase. Compared to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6 has a sleeker design. Both models feature plenty of LED lighting and futuristic design cues.

Most of the standout features between Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are the same. This includes a zero-gravity reclining function for the front seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging and separate charging points for powering small appliances. The Ioniq 5 has a 12.3-inch digital console and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the EV6 gets curved HD displays for the main infotainment system and driver display.

As mentioned earlier, the Ioniq 5 has a clear price advantage over the EV6 as it was introduced via the CKD route and therefore has a lower tax impact.
