Hyundai launches Ioniq 5 electric SUV, delivers 500 units in India in 5 months


Hyundai Motor India has announced that 500 units of the company’s new flagship Ioniq 5 electric SUV have been delivered in India since its launch five months ago.Hyundai Ioniq 5 goes on sale at Auto Expo 2023 in January, locally assembled electric offering arrives at delightful prices $Rs 4.495 lakh for first 500 customers (introductory, ex-showroom).

At the launch event, Hyundai said it had allocated 500 units of the Ioniq 5 to the Indian market this year, and the automaker has apparently hit the target number. It remains to be seen whether the company will increase its distribution over the rest of the year.

Speaking about the Ioniq 5 at the launch of Exter, Unsoo Kim, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India said, “We started 2023 with the launch of the most iconic SUV in India, the Ioniq 5, which has received huge love from India. , over 500 units sold in the past 5 months.”

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on the E-GMP platform shared with the Kia EV6 also sold in India.However, the former is a good $Rs 1.5 lakh cheaper than Hyundai importing the model as CKD (Complete Knockdown Kit) instead of CBU (Completely Assembled). The top Hyundai impresses with its modern and retro design language. Minimalist lines, parametric pixel lights, square headlight trim and glowing ‘mustache’ grille. The interior offers dual screens, plenty of head and legroom, and premium materials.

The India-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 packs a 72.6 kWh battery pack between the front and rear axles. The unit claims a range of 631km (ARAI certified) on a single charge and can charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. Power comes from a PMS electric motor tuned for 215 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque for a top speed of 185 km/h.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is equipped with ADAS, premium Bose sound system, ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Active Air Shutter (AAF), Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology, Hyundai BlueLink connectivity and more.
