Imminent price hikes help Ather Energy achieve 357% sales growth in May 2023

In May 2023, Ather Energy’s sales increased by 357% year-on-year, with 15,256 units sold. The electric two-wheeler maker announced that the strong sales were due to the upcoming price increase on June 1, 2023 due to the revision of the FAME II subsidy standard.Ather 450X price increases under new spec ¥30,000 pieces, the standard edition now retails for ¥145,000, while the 450X Pro Pack version sells for ¥165,000. All prices are ex-showroom, Bangalore.

FAME II subsidy revised to ¥10,000 yuan per kWh, with an upper limit of 15% of the ex-factory price.this used to stand ¥15,000 yuan per kWh, the upper limit is 40% of the ex-factory price of the vehicle. The revision affects almost all electric two-wheeler manufacturers, which have announced price increases from June. Like other OEMs, Ather reaches out to customers ahead of time to inform them of upcoming price increases to ensure significant savings.

Commenting on the May 2023 sales, Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Commercial Officer, Ather Energy said, “We recorded our best monthly sales in May 2023 with retail sales of 15,256 units, a 357% year-on-year increase. FAME Subsidies News of the imminent revision has further fueled the market’s strong momentum this month, which can be attributed to an increase in underlying demand. This has led some consumers to buy early to take advantage of higher subsidy amounts. The continued development of the Ather Grid continues this momentum.As we continue to strengthen our charging infrastructure, we have installed our 100th Ather Grid fast charger in Bangalore, ensuring easy and convenient charging for our customers.

Ather was the third-largest maker of electric two-wheelers in May by sales volume. Topping the list was Ola Electric, while TVS came in second with iQube sales of over 17,000 units. The company continues to be in expansion mode, opening new experience centers and charging stations across the country. The company also introduced the more affordable 450S as its new entry-level product.
