Is there a more affordable Ather 450S on the cards?learn more here

Earlier this year, Ather Energy retooled its line of electric scooters by launching a new variant of the 450X. Currently, the Ather 450X is available in two different models: a standard model and a model with the Pro kit. Regardless, the success of the Ather 450X appears to have paved the way for another model from the EV startup, possibly a more affordable zero-emissions iteration of the scooter.

The Ather 450S may be positioned below the 450X and may have fewer features.

On Wednesday, Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta posted a cryptic tweet that seemed to suggest that the brand would launch a more affordable electric scooter. It may carry the nomenclature 450S. The cryptic tweet was accompanied by an image in which the letter S was written just 450 times. That has sparked speculation that the brand is about to launch an affordable electric car that will be dubbed the 450S. Interestingly, the Ather CEO’s tweet comes just a few weeks after the company trademarked the 450S nomenclature.

The Ather 450X Standard Edition is currently priced at ¥171,879 (ex-showroom), with an additional cost for the Pro Pack variant ¥Exceeds standard model 30364. The price of the Ather 450S after the release may be in ¥150,000 (ex-showroom). As such, the Ather 450S will be the entry-level model in the EV startup’s lineup.

When launched, the Ather 450S will directly challenge Ola Electric’s S1 Air, which is the most affordable e-scooter of the latter. In order to keep the price down, the 450S may give up some features found in the 450X. The electric scooter will also have reduced range and power compared to the 450X, since it can be powered by a smaller battery pack. For reference, the Ather 450X has a range of 146 kilometers on a single charge and the TrueRange has a range of 105 kilometers on a single charge.
