China has emerged as the new global powerhouse in the manufacturing and sales of electric vehicles worldwide. However, a new video may reveal a darker side to the photo. Videos posted on YouTube shed light on possible steps Chinese car brands could take to secure government incentives, raise funds and boost sales.

The video shows drone footage of thousands of abandoned Chinese electric vehicles. Some of the models abandoned at the cemetery include the Geely Kandi K10, Neta V and BYD e3. The electric cars were spotted parked in a district of Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhenjiang province. The Youtuber who posted the video claims the automaker is secretly dumping cars to boost sales. This deceptive tactic helped them secure government incentives and raise money from investors. Plus, it helped them post a surge in sales figures, a large portion of which could be fake, as the video shows.

The video shows how the white paint of the abandoned vehicle is stained with layers of dust, and parts of the tires are covered in eroding grass. Inside the cabin, the abandoned electric car looks brand new, with plastic seat wraps intact and screens still gleaming. All of these cars have license plates showing that they are registered and notified as sold vehicles. Chinese EV makers register their cars and claim to have sold them to show the numbers and get subsidies from the government, according to the Youtuber.
