Kawasaki Eliminator cruiser launched in Japan, rivals RE Super Meteor 650

Several Kawasaki fans in India will remember the name Eliminator, which once adorned the manufacturer’s entry-level cruiser. While the name was retired a few years ago, Kawasaki has now decided to rename its new cruiser in Japan. The 2023 Kawasaki Eliminator is powered by a 398 cc parallel-twin engine that combines old-school style with modern features. It has been launched in two variants – Standard and SE.

The 2023 Kawasaki Eliminator is currently on sale in Japan, but it will be launched in other markets later. The cruiser features an all-black exterior with round LED headlamps, alloy wheels, a large fuel tank and low split seats, all of which blend nicely together to give it a cruiser stance. The model also features a circular LCD digital console with access to a wealth of information including speedometer, odometer, trip meter and signal lights.

Power for the new Kawasaki Eliminator comes from a 398 cc parallel twin liquid-cooled motor delivering 47 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 37 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. The motor is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. It’s also the same motor that powers the Kawasaki Ninja 400. The bike also features telescoping forks and dual rear shocks, while the braking hardware comes from a single puck front and rear. The model comes standard with dual-channel ABS. The bike rides on 18-inch front and 16-inch rear alloy wheels.

The Eliminator measures 2,250mm long, 785mm wide and 1,100mm high, with a wheelbase of 1,520mm. The seat height is 735mm and the ground clearance is 150mm. The bike has a light curb weight of 176kg for the standard model and around 2kg for the SE model. The Eliminator will be produced in Thailand for multiple markets.

The Kawasaki Eliminator is priced at 750,000 yen (approx. ¥469,000 yen for the standard version), while the SE trim costs 858,000 yen (approx. ¥535,000). At this price point, the Cruiser will compete with the Honda Rebel 300 and the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. While Kawasaki has yet to announce it, the model may come to the Indian market at a later date. Even more so given Eliminator’s history in India. The original Eliminator was the predecessor to the Bajaj Avenger. It was powered by a 173.9 cc motor and had huge appeal in the mass market segment of the time.
