Kia unveiled the EV5 concept car at the automaker’s China Electric Vehicle Day event, previewing the upcoming all-electric SUV. The Kia EV5 concept car appears to have taken design cues from the automaker’s EV9, which was showcased at Auto Expo 2023 in India in January this year. Kia says the EV5-derived electric SUV will go on sale in China later this year, suggesting the South Korean car brand has made a lot of progress on the project. However, it did not reveal many details about the EV.
Kia claims the Ev5 concept is a pure design showcase for a future SUV, and it didn’t reveal any powertrain or platform details about the upcoming model. The Kia EV5 looks the same as the Kia EV9, with an upright, sleek, sculpted shape. It has a similarly blunt profile and sleek LED headlights oriented vertically at the outermost edges. The car’s front fenders and overall side profile are also similar to those of the EV9. Moving back, it has bracket-shaped taillights that span the full width of the tailgate. It rides on 21-inch wheels with an asymmetrical design.

The Kia EV5 Concept comes in a bespoke Iceberg Matte Green hue, shown as a silver theme in images revealed by the automaker. Also, it comes with some subtle blue undertones.
Inside the cabin, the Kia EV5 blends soft aesthetics with masculine bodywork. The dashboard has a large screen that spans half of the dashboard. Interestingly, it has an octagonal steering wheel instead of the traditional round one, with just a few stylish capacitive buttons on it. It doesn’t feature any traditional center console between the seats. Instead, storage areas are positioned forward of the seats, making the seating arrangement look like a bench.
Another similarity between the Kia EV5 and the EV9 is the swivel seat. The Kia EV5 also comes with a full-length panoramic sunroof that acts as a solar panel. However, Kia has not revealed any details about its features. The Kia EV5 is manufactured using a variety of sustainable materials, including recycled plastic bottles for the seats, doors, dashboard and headliner.
