Mahindra to reveal its next-generation electric SUV in India on this day

Mahindra and Mahindra showcased its all-electric SUV on August 15 last year in Oxfordshire, UK. Now, the homegrown brand has announced that it will showcase a new generation of electric SUV in India. They will be showcasing them at the Mahindra EV Fashion Festival in Hyderabad on February 10, 2023. This is the first time Mahindra’s Born Electric Vehicles has come to India.

The brand showcased five electric SUVs under two brands – the XUV and a new all-electric brand called BE. These vehicles were named – XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09. The new SUV is based on the INGLO EV platform. The first four of these electric SUVs will be launched between 2024 and 2026, starting with the Indian market.

Mahindra also announced investment ¥10,000 crore for electric vehicles approved under the Maharashtra government’s Electric Vehicle Industry Promotion Scheme. The manufacturer will set up a new manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The manufacturing plant will be used to build the upcoming Born Electric car.

The automaker expects a quarter of its product portfolio to consist of electric vehicles by 2027. SUVs under the XUV brand will feature Mahindra’s futuristic technology heritage design language, while the BE brand will have EVs with a sporty and bold design language.

The INGLO EV platform on which the SUV will be based is an all-electric platform. That means it’s an electric skateboard platform, so the wheels go in the corners, and the floor is the battery pack.

Mahindra currently has only one EV in the Indian market. Competing with the Tata Nexon EV is the XUV400. It comes in two variants, EC and EL. The battery packs are rated at 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh, respectively. The claimed ranges are 375km and 456km respectively. The electric motor produces 148 hp and 310 Nm.
