The Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV is off to a good start for the automaker, with more than 15,000 reservations for the model since its launch. On the eve of the Hyderabad Electric Grand Prix, Anish Shah, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Group, announced the developments in the city while showcasing its upcoming Born Electric and XUV range of electric products.

Bookings for the Mahindra XUV400 opened on 26 January 2023, with the model quickly gathering the first 10,000 bookings within four days. The next 5,000 will arrive in a little over two weeks, showing strong demand for electric models. Mahindra’s first all-electric SUV arrives at competitive price ¥1.699 million and ¥1.899 million (ex-showroom). However, the price is limited to the first 5,000 customers. The company has yet to announce revised pricing for the model.

The XUV400 is available in two models – EC and EL. The XUV400 EC draws its energy from a 34.5 kWh battery pack and has a range of 375 km (MIDC) on a single charge, while the XUV400 EL is equipped with a larger 39.4 kWh battery pack and has a range of up to 456 km (MIDC) on a single charge. EC versions come with a 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW AC charger, while EL customers will get a 7.2 kW AC charger as standard.

Power comes from a front-axle-mounted electric motor producing 148 horsepower and 310 Nm of peak torque. The 0-100 kmph acceleration time of the Mahindra XUV400 is 8.3 seconds. In terms of features, the electric SUV is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AdrenoX UX, connected car technology, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and compatibility with OTA updates. The model also gets 16-inch alloy wheels, projector LED headlights, MID unit, six airbags, disc brakes on all wheels, ABS with EBD and more.

The XUV400 marks the beginning of Mahindra’s journey towards electric vehicles. After showcasing its new electric brand Born Electric (BE) and XUV in the UK last year, the company showcased the models for the first time in India ahead of the e-Prix in Hyderabad. The automaker plans to launch at least five new electric SUVs under the new sub-brand, alongside the launch of the BE.05 Rall-E, a chunky off-road-spec replacement for the upcoming BE.05. All upcoming electric products will be built on the automaker’s new INGLO platform.
