MG Motor India was one of the first manufacturers to launch electric vehicles in India. They launched the ZS EV in 2020 and a facelifted version in 2022. This electric crossover has been very successful in the Indian market. Now, the brand has launched the Comet EV, which belongs to a new electric vehicle segment. Here are five things to know about the MG Comet EV.

MG Comet EV: Design and dimensions

Compared to other vehicles, the design of the MG Comet EV is very polarizing. It’s a compact three-door electric hatchback. Design-wise, the Comet EV measures 2,974mm long, 1,640mm high and 1,505mm wide. It has a wheelbase of 2,010 millimeters. The MG Comet EV has a turning radius of 4.2 meters. Therefore, it has a very compact footprint and can be easily moved around the city.

MG Comet EV: Features and interior

The interior feels very upscale and upscale for a compact EV. The interior is finished in space gray, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, chrome interior door handles, and fabric upholstery. In terms of functionality, there are dual 10.25-inch screens, one for the driver display and the other for the touchscreen infotainment system that comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s smart key, keyless entry, smart start system, ORVM power regulation, tilt steering, front power windows, 3 USB ports for fast charging and iSmart connected car technology.

MG Comet EV: Battery and range

The battery pack has a capacity of 17.3 kWh and is charged via a Type 2 connector. MG claims a range of 230km on a single charge. The battery takes 5 hours to charge from 10-80% and 7 hours to charge from 0-100%. There’s no DC fast charging on offer, and the battery is charged using a 3.3 kW charger.

MG Comet EV: Performance

MG is using a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the rear axle. It puts out 41 horsepower and 110 Nm of peak torque.

MG Comet EV: Price and competitors

MG has only revealed pricing for the base Comet EV.its price is ¥798,000 ex-showroom. The manufacturer has not disclosed the price of the higher version. MG Comet will go up against Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
