MG Motor India is developing a new compact electric vehicle for the Indian market. It will be launched in India later this year. Now, the brand has announced that the new EV will be called the Comet. The name is inspired by the iconic British aircraft that entered the Anglo-Australian Mac Robertson Air Race in 1934.
Mr. Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India, said, “Urban mobility is at an inflection point and requires new-age solutions to address current and upcoming challenges. As we move further into the digital age, we will witness a plethora of Ranging from futuristic technologies to unique designs to clean transportation and more. We at MG, through the ‘comet’, intend to take the necessary decisive steps and ‘leaps of faith’ towards solutions that create a better future for each of us go ahead.”
The MG Comet will be based on the Wuling Air EV already sold in global markets. The new EV will be smaller than the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen ë-C3. The MG Comet measures approximately 2,900mm in length.

As of now, no details about the battery pack and electric motor have been revealed. The battery pack is expected to have a capacity of slightly more than 20 kWh. The claimed range on a single charge is around 250-300 km. Output is expected to be around 40 bhp.
The highlight of the MG Comet is its interior. It will have dual screens and therefore a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Connected car technology will also be available. The brand will make some changes to the vehicle to suit the Indian climatic conditions.
