More than 40% of BYD Atto 3 pre-orders from luxury car owners, deliveries by mid-January 2023

More than 40% of bookings for the recently launched BYD Atto 3 came from existing luxury car owners. BYD India Senior Vice President Sanjay Gopalakrishnan revealed the development to HT Auto in a recent interaction. The Atto 3 went on sale in India in November this year and the model is off to a strong start with over 1,500 pre-orders within a month of its launch.

In an interview with HT Auto, Sanjay Gopalakrishnan said: “Over 40% of our first-time consumer bookings are from people who own luxury cars like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. They already own luxury cars and are looking for electric cars. Option as a second or third car for the family. Our target customers are those who understand electric vehicles, understand BYD, and they want an electric vehicle with good technology. So far, it has been successful.”

These numbers are especially impressive considering the high-end positioning of BYD Atto 3 ¥3.399 million (ex-showroom India). In comparison, comparable models like the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV are more reasonably priced. However, the Atto 3 makes up for itself with a comprehensive feature list that includes Level 2 ADAS, electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a powerful PMS electric motor with 201 bhp and 310 Nm of peak torque. It also offers a range of 521 kilometers (ARAI-certified) and a 60.48 kWh battery pack, which significantly exceeds the competition.

The model has arrived in India as a semi-kick-off (SKD) kit and BYD is now gearing up for deliveries starting mid-January 2023. Gopalakrishnan revealed that deliveries will start around next month’s Auto Expo. The automaker is counting on strong word-of-mouth from customers to drive sales next year.

“Once the cars are delivered, more people will start seeing the technology on the road and we’ll get a good response. Deliveries will start in January 2023. We hope to start deliveries around Auto Expo, and there will be a continuation in the future.” delivery flow,” Gopalakrishnan added.

Atto 3 is BYD’s current flagship in India, but the brand started selling it with the e6 MPV. The model was launched to commercial buyers in 2021, but sales to private buyers began in August this year.The electric MPV is priced at ¥2.915 million (ex-showroom India).
