In an interview with HT Auto, Sanjay Gopalakrishnan said: “Over 40% of our first-time consumer bookings are from people who own luxury cars like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. These numbers are especially impressive considering the high-end positioning of BYD Atto 3 ¥3.399 million (ex-showroom India). In comparison, comparable models like the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV are more reasonably priced. However, the Atto 3 makes up for itself with a comprehensive feature list that includes Level 2 ADAS, electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a powerful PMS electric motor with 201 bhp and 310 Nm of peak torque. It also offers a range of 521 kilometers (ARAI-certified) and a 60.48 kWh battery pack, which significantly exceeds the competition.
The model has arrived in India as a semi-kick-off (SKD) kit and BYD is now gearing up for deliveries starting mid-January 2023. Gopalakrishnan revealed that deliveries will start around next month’s Auto Expo. The automaker is counting on strong word-of-mouth from customers to drive sales next year.
