Mercedes-Benz has revealed details of technological innovations for the interiors of its 2023 E-Class sedan and wagon.

Highlights inside the new executive car include extensive use of artificial intelligence (AI) to help develop programs, as well as displays for front-seat passengers. Oh, and there’s an integrated selfie camera too.

An optional front passenger screen can display TV or video streaming content even when the car is in motion.

An advanced, camera-based “vision shield” will prevent drivers from seeing what they’re viewing, or being distracted by screen brightness.

A key part of the updated MBUX infotainment system inside the new E-Class is the plethora of smartphone-style apps.

The launch includes the TikTok social media app, the Angry Birds game, and collaboration platforms Zoom and Webex.

The latter pair will be familiar to anyone who has worked from home in recent years. However, the optional MBUX Superscreen will also create the potential for you to work on the (fixed) E-Class.

An integrated interior camera at the top of the dash allows for video conferencing and selfies.

AI becomes a product of habit

Mercedes-Benz wants the E-Class to use artificial intelligence to learn and adapt to the driver’s daily routine.

Initially, this will involve the driver creating routines for itself. For example, tell your E-Class to automatically turn on the heated seats and turn the ambient lighting orange when the temperature drops below a certain level.

Over time, Mercedes hopes the E-Class will be able to notice on its own and perform repetitive tasks automatically. The AI-generated programs will initially be limited to heating and ventilation, but their scope will expand in the future.

The first completed new E-Class models will arrive at European dealerships this summer, with North American deliveries starting in the fall.
