Disclosing the key stats for its e-scooters, Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said the company has sold a billion or a billion kilometers on battery-powered two-wheelers. The milestone comes just 18 months after selling the first Ola electric scooter. He claims the scooters collectively save more than 20 million liters of petrol, promoting greener transport.

Ola S1 Pro Electric Scooter

Ola electric scooters have reached 250,000 households across the country, Aggarwal said when sharing the information on Twitter. “And the journey is accelerating super fast!” he wrote. The company first launched its S1 electric scooter in the country in August 2021, with the first deliveries in December of the same year.

The company initially launched two versions of the electric scooter — the S1 and S1 Pro — and now it has a third version — the S1 Air. It’s the cheapest version of the company’s electric scooters. While the company has already started taking preorders for the S1 Air, its buying window, test rides and deliveries will begin in July.

Depending on the battery pack, the Ola S1 Air comes in three trims for customers to choose from. The trims will come with 2 kWh, 3 kWh and 4 kWh battery packs, offering different ranges on a single charge.

Ola Electric also recently announced the start of construction of its upcoming battery gigafactory, which is expected to be India’s largest EV battery factory. It will be located in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu and promises a production capacity of 10 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year.

Aggarwal shared an image of the initiative on Twitter. The new Gigafactory is in line with Ola’s plans to become an integral player in the EV space, where the company is working to develop more two- and even four-wheeled vehicles.
