Ola Electric shared video on Twitter showing the S1 Air electric scooter being tested on a tarmac ahead of its launch this month. Various colored S1 Air scooters can be seen driving side by side on the tarmac. Riders can be seen speeding up and leaning their scooters as they race side by side, demonstrating their abilities.
The company has confirmed that deliveries and test rides of the scooter will begin in July, while OEMs have started taking pre-orders, but the purchase window hasn’t opened yet.The scooter is expected to sell for $84,999 and up to $109,000 (ex-showroom).
The S1 Air is expected to have a top speed of 85 km/h and a range of up to 165 km per charge. Design-wise, the Ola S1 Air looks identical to the S1 and S1 Pro. It will be available in five two-tone paint themes – Coral Allure, Neo Mint, Porcelain White, Jet Black and Liquid Silver.
Ola Electric has started building a second factory in India, which is expected to be the largest battery manufacturing plant in the country. The 115-acre battery gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu is expected to have an annual production capacity of 100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) at full capacity.
The company will begin operations early next year with an initial capacity of 5GWh and will expand further in stages. The factory will be able to produce batteries for electric vehicles as well as other battery solutions. The new Gigafcatory will play a vital role in Ola Electric’s EV journey as the OEM aims to become a holistic player in the space.
