Renault has become the first car brand in the world to offer built-in Waze satellite navigation directly through the car’s infotainment system.

Waze Instead of using Waze directly on your smartphone or on an Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connection, it is now integrated into the OpenR Link multimedia system in the new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric and Renault Austral E-Tech hybrid SUVs.

This means that for the first time, drivers can use Waze through the new Renault’s large infotainment screen, rather than their smartphones.

Therefore, car owners don’t have to worry about smartphones or USB cables to use Waze.

Waze is a popular sat-nav app used by millions of motorists around the world. It offers real-time directions, advanced navigation, and a unique set of Waze alerts, all sourced from the Waze community.

“Wazers” earn points by notifying others of traffic jams or other road hazards.

Integrating Waze into the larger Renault infotainment system means users will be able to contribute more easily – and more importantly, more safely.

Since Waze is based on the Google Android Automotive OS platform, Renault was able to integrate Waze directly into its OpenR Link multimedia system.

The futuristic system “redefines the in-car experience” because it’s “intuitive, immersive and connected,” the company said.

Given Waze’s popularity, integrating it into a car’s infotainment system is a real coup for Renault.

The Waze app is now available on the Google Play Store for all new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, and the upcoming Renault Austral E-Tech hybrid family SUV due in 2023.
