Bengaluru-based new electric two-wheeler manufacturer River launched their first product in the Indian market on February 22. It’s called Indie, and the brand has started taking pre-orders. Deliveries to River Indie will begin in August 2023. Here are five things you should know about River Indie.
River Indie: Battery pack and riding range
The Indie comes with a non-removable 4 kWh battery pack. It’s placed on the floor, and the manufacturer backs the scooter and battery pack with a five-year, or 50,000km, warranty. River claims an actual range of 120 kilometers in Eco mode. Charges to 80% in 5 hours using a standard charger.
River Indie: Practicality
River took special care to ensure that Indie is very functional. There is a flat floor where patrons are protected so things don’t slide out. This scooter has the largest storage space of any scooter, with a huge 43 liter storage space under the seat and a 12 liter front glove box. The brand will also sell panniers and top boxes.
River Indie: Performance
The River Indie is equipped with an electric motor capable of producing 6.7 kW of peak power and can take the Indie to a top speed of 90 kmph. The electric motor also allows it to climb hills up to 18 degrees and can do 0-40 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
River Indie: Hardware and Features
In terms of functionality, Indie offers three riding modes, namely Eco, Ride and Rush. Then there is an LCD instrument cluster that can display the necessary information to the rider. The braking task for the River Indie is a 240mm disc at the front and a 200mm disc at the rear. Suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear.
River Indie: Prices
River Indie starts at ¥125,000 (ex-showroom). As of now, the scooter is only available in Bengaluru and the manufacturer plans to roll it out to other cities in stages.
