Rolls Royce Ghost Test

Rolls-Royce has reached a new milestone in testing its upcoming Specter electric coupe.

The prototype version of the Specter has now driven more than 2 million kilometers – equivalent to 1.24 million miles, the most demanding assessment ever undertaken on any Rolls-Royce car.

Rolls-Royce aims to have covered 2.5 million kilometers (1.6 million miles) by the end of the testing programme.

During development, 25,000 individual features will be assessed and refined through the Rolls-Royce Finishing School.

The latest round of punishment for the prototype Specter involved extremely hot weather testing at two locations in South Africa.

The Augrabies in the Northern Cape and the Franschhoek winelands in the Western Cape both offer what Rolls-Royce describes as “the best summer climate driving in the world”.

Temperatures in the Northern Cape can reach up to 50 degrees Celsius, a tough test for any car. This is in stark contrast to the -40 degrees Celsius experienced by the Specter during cold weather testing in Sweden.

The country roads in other parts of South Africa are winding and winding, with gravel and dirt adding an extra challenge. Rugged roads were of particular importance to Rolls-Royce engineers, who wanted to ensure the Specter delivered a pleasurable ‘magic carpet’ ride quality.

“Super Luxurious Situation”

Being a Rolls-Royce, the Wraith has high demands on quality. Engineers have ensured that the custom Starlight Headliner remains visible in bright sunlight and that the display panels have the correct color quality.

The closing speed of the long self-closing doors has been taken into account, while the 17-speaker sound system has been tuned for optimum sound quality with a specially created playlist.

A lifestyle analysis will form the final part of Specter’s testing, focusing on how the electric Rolls-Royce can function in a “super-luxury situation”.

All of this will be done before the first full Specter is delivered in winter 2023. Rolls-Royce set new sales records in 2022, and the Specter, which already has a large waiting list, is expected to continue this successful trend.
