Royal Enfield advances electric motorcycle plans, invests in Spanish e-bike maker

Eicher Motors, the parent company of Royal Enfield, has announced that it has acquired a 10.35% stake in Spanish electric motorcycle company Stark Future SL. The Indian motorcycle giant has invested 50 million euros in the Spanish company that specializes in electric off-road vehicles.

Eicher Motors said that the cooperation between the two companies will help explore more opportunities in the field of electric vehicles. Royal Enfield and Stark Future will collaborate to develop sustainable solutions for global mobility, the company said.

The first product from Stark Future is the Stark VARG, an electric high-performance motocross bike that promises to put in some interesting numbers. The electric off-roader has around 80 horsepower and a curb weight of just 110 kilograms. The bike features a 6 kWh battery pack that can be fully charged in two hours via fast charging, providing up to six hours of battery life when riding the trails. Deliveries of the Stark VARG will begin in 2024.

The partnership opens up new avenues for Royal Enfield as it will help the company realize its electric vehicle ambitions. The manufacturer also confirmed that it is working on an electric motorcycle with “strong Royal Enfield DNA” and that the experience gained from Stark will help the brand build its future offerings. It will be interesting to see if the two companies co-develop a new platform or collaborate to expand Stark’s existing electric motorcycle platform to support future RE models.
