Royal Enfield, a major player in the Indian motorcycle market, is aiming to capture a significant portion of the electric motorcycle market. The company is said to be going all-in on launching an electric motorcycle. Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan reportedly said in an analyst call that the company is working on several electric motorcycles with unique differentiation.

HT Tech reports that Royal Enfield has started working on the development of electric motorcycles and has created a strong supplier ecosystem. The report also said that the company will manufacture these electric motorcycles at its factory in Chennai.Interestingly, Royal Enfield’s parent company, Eicher Motors, has earmarked a capital expenditure ¥10 billion for electric vehicle manufacturing and product development.

Royal Enfield’s chief executive has reportedly said the company is making steady progress with its electric motorcycle project. He also said the company’s electric motorcycle would have the same characteristics that Royal Enfield products are known for. “We’ve been making steady progress in the EV journey. I can say that Royal Enfield’s EV journey is in top gear right now. Our intention is to create a uniquely differentiated electric motorcycle with strong Royal Enfield DNA,” he said. added.

The company’s top official further said that the automaker has commissioned a very capable team to develop the electric motorcycle and invested very deeply in the areas of product development and strategy. Govindarajan further added, “Currently, we have a robust long-term product and technology roadmap for electric vehicles, and developing the supplier ecosystem is the current focus.” Several prototypes of the upcoming electric motorcycle were thoroughly tested. However, the motor company has yet to say when it will launch the electric motorcycle bearing the Royal Enfield badge.
