GM Defense has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE to develop and supply electric military vehicles to the country’s armed forces. According to the company, the MoU signed with the UAE government entity Tawazun Council covers the development of future products in the field of advanced mobility and power solutions.
GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors (GM), is a well-known name in defense vehicle manufacturing. In a press statement, the company informed that it will leverage GM’s commercial technology and the battery electric investments GM has already made with defense and government customers around the world. “Priority opportunities covered by the MOU include collaborative research and development, regional production and assembly, post-production support and global logistics focused on key technology areas for integrated vehicles; power and propulsion – including fuel cells and power generation; and autonomy and connectivity,” a A press statement informed.
The MOU is also the first partnership for GM Defense in West Asia, and while the company has been competing for key military contracts domestically in the US, it is now also seeking a global presence, especially since the formal announcement of GM Defense International last year.
