Tesla Cybertruck prototype spotted with black exterior and glass roof

The Tesla Cybertruck has been in the public eye for some time now, and a prototype electric vehicle has once again been spotted making rounds at the company’s new engineering headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Insideevs reports. This time around, the Cybertruck was spotted climbing a grassy slope, draped in a new black tonneau cover and glass roof. It looks like a compelling combination, as a test prototype of an electric pickup truck emerges.

Tesla has built a beta fleet of Cybertruck prototypes to test a variety of different things before initial production begins, which is expected to begin this summer. Over the past few weeks, different incarnations of some of these archetypes have been spotted all over California.

The box-like roof seen in the latest Cybertruck sighting looks different than the bedspread seen on previous prototypes. Earlier prototypes found had lighter-coloured bedspreads – possibly made of a different material.

It’s not known what the new cover is made of, or if it’s the final production version, but it looks good on the truck, especially when combined with the glass roof panel. The trunk lid is expected to retract automatically.

Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had said that the Cybertruck’s deck would feature embedded solar cells, but it’s not yet certain if that’s the case. After unveiling the initial Cybertruck prototype in late 2019, Musk said the production model would come with a solar roof option that would add 24 kilometers of range per day.

Not just the decklid and glass roof, but the latest prototype also has functional left headlights and taillights, while the right lights don’t work and the front and rear light bars don’t activate. So this particular prototype has more work to do on its auxiliary electrical system.
