In the latest incident on Monday, the driver of a Tesla Model Y reportedly lost control of the electric vehicle when it sprinted through a traffic light before crashing, according to reports. The incident took place in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, China. Video of the incident, which went viral on Chinese social media site Weibo, showed a Tesla Model Y rushing through a traffic intersection. While the final impact was not captured in the video, the electric vehicle reportedly crashed into another vehicle, which in turn struck nearby pedestrians. Two people died and at least three were injured.

Local authorities are investigating the incident, but pursuing accountability could become difficult because in the past, Tesla drivers who crashed have blamed the electric car itself. These EVs are equipped with a long list of cameras, radars and sensors that allow the vehicle to control and manage various driving-related functions. While Tesla insists that drivers must keep their hands or hands on the wheel and pay attention at all times, it may not matter if there is a malfunction in the car.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been a strong advocate of self-driving technology, even claiming that the technology can eliminate the possibility of human error. But even here in the stateside, people are still waiting for the green signal for 100 percent autonomous driving on public roads.
