The bugs were found in an isolated area of the plant, the report said. Zach Dietmeier, senior plant communications manager, told the publication that affected teams have been notified about the issue. “These affected teams have been notified. We have investigated each report and have taken appropriate action based on our pest control contractor,” he said, adding that Rivian has quarantined the affected forklifts and It was treated accordingly as part of precautionary measures to stop further spread of bedbugs. The company claims to be working on other forklifts and tractors, as well as transport shuttles. The automaker plans to implement pest control measures on all warehouse spaces at the plant by the end of this month.

On Reddit, a user claimed that the EV maker’s U.S. factory has had bedbugs for at least a week. The user also accused the company of not properly addressing the issue. However, Rivian claims its facilities are safe and are being dealt with appropriately. It also encouraged employees to report bedbugs and said it would continue to investigate reports of bedbugs. Additionally, it warns against spreading misinformation.

Meanwhile, the electric automaker is burning through billions in cash as it aims to ramp up production of the R1T electric pickup truck, which began delivering to customers about a year ago. However, despite pouring billions into R1T production, the EV maker has yet to come up with a credible future product strategy for the growing competition in the EV space.
