Austrian two-wheeler giant KTM AG has relaunched the 790 Duke middleweight streetfighter for the European market. The KTM 790 Duke dropped off European and other markets in 2019 to be replaced by the more powerful and feature-rich 890 Duke from the company’s stable. However, the motorcycle has been specially restored to comply with A2 license plate specifications.

The 2023 KTM 790 Duke shares the same design language as on the discontinued model. This includes split LED headlamps, a sharp fuel tank with elongated sides, exposed grilles, TFT screens and more. The bike will be sold alongside the 890 Duke in the manufacturer’s line, but the same 790 cc parallel-twin engine on the A2-compatible version is limited to 94 bhp. That said, markets outside of Europe will continue to get the unrestricted 103bhp version introduced earlier this year.

The revival of the KTM 790 Duke is thanks to the brand’s Chinese partner CFMoto. The 790 Duke’s 790 cc twin-cylinder engine also powers many CFMoto motorcycles, meaning the engine complies with current and future regulations in several markets. This allowed KTM to use the engine for its own lineup, and what better way than to bring the 790 Duke back to market.

In terms of features, the 2023 KTM 790 Duke comes with full LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, three riding modes, traction control, two-way quick shifter, cornering ABS, motor slip adjuster and more. The bike also comes with a range of accessories. The 2023 790 Duke is available in two colors – gray and orange.

This also begs the question, will India also get the 790 Duke again? The motorcycle was launched in the country in 2019 but was discontinued in 2020 after a short run. Revival means that the scalpel has become a favorite of many. It is unclear if KTM plans to bring the 790 Duke to India anytime soon. It also remains to be seen if KTM will revive the 790 Adventure motorcycle, which was also highly anticipated but never officially launched in the country.
